Marion Couunty, Fla., commissioners have voted 3-2 to approve a rezoning that will allow South Marion Real Estate Holdings to build a quarter horse racing track and poker room in the county.
But, Carlos Medina of Ocala.Com reported, the company was denied in its request to build a clubhouse and poker room before it builds a track. The company had hoped to lease the nearby Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. track to satisfy state requirements that live racing must precede poker play.
Florida’s Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering has granted South Marion Real Estate Holdings a quarter horse permit. The track is proposed for the southern part of the county, near The Villages.
