The Florida House Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact review on Thursday voted 15-2 to advance a bill that would strip limits on poker buy-ins and bet limits and would extend hours at Florida poker rooms.
Last session, the Legislature approved Senate Bill 788, but the poker applications were tied to a ratification of a gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe. The action on Thursday splits the pari-mutuel "sweetners" and poker legislation from the Seminole Compact legislation.
Related, the committee voted 17-0 to defeat the Seminole Compact portion, though the committee indicated that it’s open to a revised compact with the tribe.
In Alabama, Rep. John Rogers, D-Birmingham, has introduced House Bill 235 that would allow casinos that have slot machines to add table games, including poker.
