Poker has always been one of the most popular casino games, and now there are hundreds of versions online for you to enjoy. With so many online casinos, the choice is mind-blowing, from high RTP slots to traditional table games. Let’s have a look at some of the types of poker you can play online.

Texas Hold’em

If you ever see a movie or television program featuring poker, it is likely to be Texas Hold’em that they are playing. It’s one of the most popular poker games and features five community cards face up and two hidden hole cards. It is a game of skill and bluff, but there are plenty of sites for beginners where you can get the hang of the rules and build your game from there.

Caribbean Stud Poker

In the Caribbean, stud poker players go head-to-head with the dealer rather than other game players. It is similar to 5 card stud, but there are a few subtle differences. For example, the dealer must show one of the cards in his hand the whole time. It also features a progressive jackpot, meaning there is more than one way to win. The player and the dealer are dealt five cards when the game starts. The bet is placed, and if the player beats the dealer, they win 1:1; if the dealer has a hand that doesn’t qualify, they win the steak back.

Video Poker

Possibly the best place to start if you are new to poker. It’s easy to understand and gives you an excellent basic grounding of the game before you explore other versions. The general video poker game is the most simplistic, and you will find other offerings that include wild cards, jokers, and deuces.

Pot Limit Omaha

Action-packed and perfect for players with some experience at the poker table. In Omaha, a hand begins with four-hole cards, but players may only use two to create their winning hand. It is similar to Texas Hold’em, but arguably, there is more action and tension in a game of Pot Limit Omaha.

Pai Gow Poker

Play beat the Banker version of poker, which means you are playing one player against the table. The hand is dealt with seven cards, and the player must make a five-card and two-card hand. The object is that your five-card hand ranks higher than the two-card hand. The joker is added for extra fun and can be used in a flush or to fill in a straight alternatively; you can use it as an ace. A winning hand is where both the five cards and two cards beat the banker’s equivalent. If one of your hands beats the banker, but the other does not, it is classed as a push, and you will get your stake back.

Online Poker Tournaments

You will also find that many of these poker games are used in online tournaments. These do give players a chance to win, but remember, it is a game of chance and skill, so you could also lose. Even small stake tournaments involve hundreds of pounds, so these are not games for the casual gambler.
