The PPC returns to the Silks Poker Room at Tampa Bay Downs for the Winter Fest on Jan. 18-25 as the $580 main event will have a $100K guarantee and four starting flights.

The series kicks off with a $225 no-limit hold’em event that has a $10K guarantee, plus there will be pot-limit Omaha, SHO (stud, hold’em, Omaha), a seniors event and Open Face Chinese. This series has been a fan favorite of the Tampa community for the past three years.

SARASOTA KENNEL CLUB: The Warrior Dog Foundation charity event concluded Dec. 7 with more than 130 players on hand to benefit the those four-legged friends in the Navy SEAL and special-operations community. Many players from the Tampa community and dealers and staff from Derby Lane, which co-sponsored the event, came out to help this great cause.

One special guest was Carlos, who spent time in Afghanistan and was in service when he and his handler tripped an IED, injuring both. Carlos protected his handler and kept him safe until evacuation teams arrived to transport them.

After rehabbing, Carlos was deployed twice more into service and finally retired. The Warrior Dog Foundation runs the sanctuary for these heroes.

Between donations and player contributions the charity raised more than $13K. The poker event ended in a 10-way chop and those players were Julio Martinez, A.J. Frotto, Fish Phommavog, Joleen Loper, Melton Little, Whitney Hardman, Nathan Alderson, George H., John Andrick and Steve Zaritsky.

DERBY LANE: After the Warrior Dog Foundation, Derby Lane will be part of the Restock the Shelves initiative created by Ante Up and Blue Shark Optics. Details of the tournament are still in the works, but Derby Lane joins the Silks as two of the Tampa Bay rooms that will host tournaments during the nationwide event on Jan. 19.
