Miroslav Semanisin captured Ho-Chunk Nekoosa’s third annual Pulse Pounding tournament Sept. 28, held in memory of former table games employee Kevin Abbott. The tournament attracted 40 runners for prize pool of $12,500. The event raised $1,800 for the Foundation of Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
The event featured four $200 bounties including local radio personalities Kim Carr, Bryan Scott, “Panama Jack” and myself. Also in attendance was 2012 World Series of Poker National Championship runner-up Nikolas Stone. After two days of play, Semanisin emerged victorious to win $3,500 and a championship silver bracelet.
“The Pulse Pounding tournament event started in 2011,” Nekoosa poker room manager Adam Estes said. “(Abbott) loved poker, dealing and talking to people. We wanted to create an event to honor his memory and raise money to donate to help others in need at the same time.”
Here are the rest of the top six, and the top three made a deal. Kevin Koscal ($3K), Troy Miller ($3K), David Nelson ($1,250), Ben Rock ($1K) and Robin Weideman ($750).
Ho-Chunk Nekoosa’s next big tournament will be in December.
