The World Poker Tour is again stopping in Central Florida with the WPT Tampa Bay Open at Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa. This 14-event series will run June 1-11 and is expected to have a significant turnout as players will be looking for extra cash to take to Vegas this summer.

This series has different variations of no-limit hold’em (six-max, turbo, seniors and ladies) and even a pot-limit Omaha event to please the four-card enthusiasts. Side events all have re-entries to help increase prize pools.

The $2,250 championship event will be June 8-11 with two starting days (June 8-9). It has a guaranteed prize pool of $400K and players will get 30K units and 60-minute blinds.

“This World Poker Tour series is bigger and better than last time because we’re guaranteeing over $700K in payouts,” HRT vice president of gaming Russ Christianson said. “Higher prizes are what our players want.”

Schedule is below.

MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT: Lucky’s Cardroom at Tampa Greyhound Track hosted a memorial tournament April 20 in honor of late Ante Up columnist John Lanier. Ante Up publishers Chris Cosenza and Scott Long were on hand, as was Mr. Lanier’s wife, Liz, who made the final table. Their son, Joey, won the tournament, which raised money for prostate cancer awareness.
