Jason Mercier, the young pro from Davie who was the subject of Ante Up’s cover story in December 2008, is the overwhelming chipleader at the World Series of Poker Europe’s Main Event. Mercier, a PokerStars Team Pro who won a WSOP bracelet in PLO this year in Las Vegas, has 3.2 million chips, nearly three times more than his closest competitor.
Mercier (pronounced MER-see-er) has dominated this tournament the past two days and continues to flourish abroad where he’s won the Million Pound High Roller event and an EPT San Remo event in the past two years. According to the WSOPE, Mercier is staying on the couch of a good friend instead of booking a hotel room in London.
Other names you might recognize at the final table include PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu (438K) and CardPlayer owner Barry Shulman (1.09M), whose son Jeff is a member of the November Nine this year. And two other members of the November Nine have made the WSOPE final table as well, Antoine Saout (701K) and James Akenhead (1.4M).
Stay tuned to Ante Up for updates on Mercier’s progress.
