Jacksonville’s bestbet poker room is gearing up for its Jacksonville Spring Series (April 11-30), which culminates with its $500K guarantee World Poker Tour Main Event (April 26-30).
But before that, bestbet held a $340 event that attracted 323 players in February, as Eddie Byrant of Fayetteville, N.C., took home almost $8K for first after a deal was made at the final table. Bryant is a captain in the Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, though he said he’d like to become a pro player some day after he leaves the service.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Pensacola Greyhound Park and Creek Entertainment Gretna recently held their Player of the Year tournament and R.J. Brinnon was victorious. The event is a culmination of the 12 Player of the Month events where players earn points to qualify for the POY event in January, sharing a $15K prize pool.
DAYTONA BEACH: February was exciting for the Daytona Beach Kennel Club Poker Room as World Series of Player Main Event champ Greg Raymer and NASCAR legend Jimmy Johnson paid the room a visit. Raymer held a four-hour poker seminar, which drew 30 participants, followed by a $225 special Friday Night Lights event that featured a $10K guaranteed and $500 bounty on Raymer’s head.
“The two days he was here made our tournament entrants higher then normal,” she said.
DBKC will be running qualifying tournaments for this month’s $550 Spring Fling Deepstack with a $125K guarantee. Call the room for details.
EBRO: The annual Emerald Coast Spring series runs April 18-May 5 at the greyhound park. See the ad on Page 32 for more details.
