With the World Series of Poker under way, it’s easy to forget all of the great events and promotions going on in the Northern California poker scene. Thunder Valley Casino is hosting a Players Championship tournament series, which begins July 19 with a mega satellite to the main event.

Poker director Ben Erwin has scheduled a H.O.R.S.E. tournament for July 31 and an Omaha/8 event on Aug. 6 to complement the no-limit hold’em events.

With a $40K guarantee on July 21, a $60K guarantee on July 28 and the celebrity event on Aug. 4, there are a lot of options.

Also leading up to the main event are a six-handed tournament and a turbo event. Bounties will be up for grabs on Aug. 2 and Aug. 8, and the series will conclude with the $100K guarantee Players Championship on Aug. 10. With beyond-capacity crowds at his previous series, Erwin is confident all players will be accommodated for the main event.

“Due to the overwhelming popularity of our tournaments, we will have two Day 1s for the main event,” he said.

He encourages players to come out early to register nonetheless.
“With the Sacramento area’s only $100K prize pool, we expect a huge turnout.”

You can check out the schedule of events, including the mega satellites to the Players Championship, in the Thunder Valley ad in the magazine.

OAKS CLUB: The Oaks Club has changed the Monday night tournament to a bounty event. With a $120 buy-in and $20 bounties, the format change brings a new game to Emeryville. The starting time for this tournament has been moved back to 6:15 weekly, so make sure to get there early to register.

CASINO 101: Casino 101 in Petaluma has announced a Double-Jackpot Sunday promotion. At press time, the jackpot will exceed $200K. Saturday tournaments are 1 p.m., with the first Saturday of each month being a $275 buy-in event. Once again, get there early to reserve your seat.
