The Isle Casino at Pompano Park (Fla.) has quickly become one of the hottest spots for tournament poker in Florida. Starting April 1 it will host its third annual Battles at the Beach series, which will include more than 23 tournaments and a combined guaranteed prize pool that exceeds $1 million.
The Battles at the Beach kicks off with a $550 no-limit hold’em event with a $125K guarantee. The series includes buy-ins ranging from $150 to the $3,200 championship event and features bounty events (April 7, 13, 14 and 21); rebuys (April 17 and 20); turbos (April 18 and 26); a High Heels Poker Tour event (April 17, $150, 4 p.m.), a heads-up event (April 21, $1,100, noon); and a PLO rebuy event (April 20, $200/RB, noon).
Another great aspect of this series is tournaments have re-entries (except Events 13, 14, 19, 20 and 22) that allow for larger prize pools.
Director of poker operations Mike Smith believes this will be the Isle’s biggest and best series yet.
“I think our numbers will be consistent with previous events,” Smith said. “We are giving the players a great product, terrific venue, a well-trained staff and most important, a well-run tournament with a great structure.”
The Battles at the Beach championship has grown larger as the series has developed. Said Smith: “Our main event will feature our biggest buy-in yet of $3,200. Players in this series will also have the opportunity to win seats into the main event at the Florida State Championship in July. The buy-in for that main event will be $5,300 with a guarantee of $1 million.”
The Battles championship is a two-day event with starting days on April 22 and 23 ($3,200, noon) with the final table on April 26. It has a total guaranteed prize pool of $300,000 and is expected to have an large turnout. Mega satellites for the championship are running on April 7 at noon and 3 p.m. ($330 w/$100 rebuys and add-ons).
