Oaklawn’s second annual Winter Poker Classic is under way, culminating in a $10,000 championship tournament on March 23. Qualifying tournaments take place Monday and Wednesday nights at 7 in Oaklawn’s poker room.
New to this year’s WPC is a point accrual system that allows an additional 20 participants to join the top two finishers of each qualifier and earn their way into the final. The system is similar to one used in the World Series of Poker to determine Player of the Year standings.
The twice-weekly qualifying tournaments feature a $50 buy-in; nightly tournament payouts are guaranteed.
“We’re excited to welcome back one of our most successful tournaments of 2010,” says Matt Clement, Oaklawn’s Assistant Gaming Manager. “This year, the new ranking system allows a chance at the final Championship for dedicated players who’ve entered multiple tournaments. If you come and play solidly over the course of the tournament, you can earn a seat at the championship.”
