Tyler Smith must love home cooking.

Smith, a poker pro from Smithdale, Miss., has captured the $5K World Poker Open Main Event at Gold Strike in Tunica, Miss.

Smith has found much success in his home state as he just won the $2,400 Spring Break Poker Classic Main Event ($111K) in April at the Gold Strike’s sister property, the Beau Rivage. And that victory came on the heels of a WPT $10K final table at the Beau’s Southern Poker Championships in January, finishing sixth for $86K.

Smith wasn’t the only pro to come up big at the Gold Strike. Vanessa Rousso, who hosted one of her Big Slick Book Camps there earlier in the month, captured the $2,500 8-game mixed event. Rousso, a Hobe Sound, Fla., resident and wife to fellow poker pro Chad Brown, was the subject of an Ante Up cover story in April 2009. You can read that here.
