Jason Mercier, perhaps the hottest poker player on the planet today, took down another event, capturing the Southern Poker Championship $1K no-limit hold’em tournament at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Mercier, a resident of Davie, Fla., won nearly $61K for the title. He edged out Tampa’s Manny Minaya, who won $30K.
Also at the final table were locals Seth Fischer of Palm Harbor, Fla. (4th, $15K), Preston Burge of Slidell, La. (6th, $7,300) and Jon Westro of Gainesville, Fla. (8th, $5,529).
There were 190 players in the field with a prize pool of $184,300.
