News on efforts to explore the possibility of online poker in Florida has taken a backseat to the ongoing negotiations over a new Seminole Compact, but Gambling Compliance has posted a story that gives an update on the process.

Marc Dunbar, a Tallahassee lobbyist and cover story feature of the October issue of Ante Up, says there is support in the legislative leadership for regulated online poker in Florida, but any movement is tied to a resolution on the compact, which includes a line about online poker.

While a special session to consider the Seminole Compact in October is now unlikely, there’s still a possibility that the Legislature will convene in November or December to consider it if all parties can agree on changes. If not, the entire deal – including new poker limits – may be rethought in next year’s April regular session.
