The age limit for poker will stay at 18 if the recently approved Florida gambling bill completes its path to approval, Ante Up has confirmed with new sources.

But don’t expect higher limits in Florida poker rooms any time soon. The bill still needs to be signed by Gov. Charlie Crist, then approved by the Seminole Tribe. Then, the Tribe and Gov. Crist will draft a new compact by Aug. 31. The new compact would need to be approved by the Legislature. If the Legislature doesn’t call for a special session this year, the compact will be taken up during next year’s regular session in March-April. After the Legislature agrees, the deal must be approved by the federal government and entered into the Federal Register.

Best case scenario, Ante Up is hearing, is late this year for new limits, but it might not happen until the summer of 2010.
