The recent 31-event series Atlantis Casino met or exceeded all guarantees as players such as Hall of Famer Tom McEvoy and Vince Burgio stayed throughout the week to play multiple events, and Lon McEachern made the quick drive from his new home base in Sacramento to play in the $240 mega.

The nine-day series began March 21 with the opening $50K guarantee attracting 196 runners for a prize pool of $57,036. Daniel Schneider took first place and $14,950.

But the story was Erkut Yilmaz of Sacramento and Vincent Remmel of Truckee, Calif., who took out nearly half of the main-event field on Day 2. Remmel started the day around fourth in chips, but he quickly took the lead when his Q-Q held and won a massive pot vs. Daniel Honig and eliminated Damon Shulenberger. Heads-up came down to Remmel and Yilmaz, who battled for more than three hours for the title.

In the end, it came down to A-2 vs. K-5, and Yilmaz flopped a five for the trophy and $42,665. Remmel pocketed $34,467.

“It really was a great event,” said Remmel, who moved to the Lake Tahoe area about 12 years ago and has been on a good local run as of late, finishing fourth at a recent Peppermill event in Reno. “The Atlantis put on a good tournament with an amazing structure.”

Assistant manager Keith Dames was pleased with the results and outcome of the series. “Beating the main-event guarantee by over $50K was incredible. A big ‘thank you’ to the Reno-Tahoe locals as well as those who traveled for this event.”
