The fourth annual Nevada State Ladies Poker Championships hosted by Ladies International Poker Series kicked off at the Peppermill in Reno on Feb. 26 and Koree Kirkpatrick of Reno captured the main event, which had a record 147 entrants for a prize pool of more than $22K.
Kirkpatrick pocketed $6,300 and a $1,300 LIPS championship seat. The number of entrants proves women’s tours are gaining in popularity, and tour stops with a title at stake seem to be coveted the most. Lupe Soto, owner of LIPS, was thrilled about the turnout for a series that had eight events.
“The most impressive statistic was where everyone came from for this event,” Soto said. “We had women fly in from nine states and Canada. Only a handful of women were locals and yet it was a local that won the title. We’re looking forward to growing this event in a major way for next year.” said Soto. The first event had about 100 players, with Susie Isaacs and Tracey Thomas of Reno chopping the money, but Isaacs earned her first LIPS trophy as she had more chips when the deal was made.
