Canterbury Park’s Fall Poker Classic, which runs Oct. 1-15, will have some surprises this year.
“The Fall Poker Classic will combine what has been popular in previous Fall Classics with some new twists,” senior director of casino operations Michael Hochman said. “We are excited to offer some smaller buy-in tournaments each evening, in addition to our daily $200-$500 events. We’re also adding an all-in-or-fold tournament and a few mixed-game tournaments to our usual lineup, while bringing back the seniors event and the ladies tournament. There is literally something for everyone.”
The daily $200-$500 events will start at noon, plus there will be nightly $100 events at 6:30.In addition to usual no-limit hold’em events, there will be Omaha/8, stud and six-handed NLHE tournaments.
The series culminates with the two-day $1K championship event, which will have several satellites running in the days leading up to it.
Caris Norberg and Jan Phillips will again serve as tournament directors.
“The Fall Poker Classic is something we look forward to all year,” Norberg said. “This year, with our added events, we’re anticipating an enormous turnout.”

SHUTDOWN COSTS MILLIONS: The state shutdown is over and Canterbury Park and Running Aces are back to operating normally, though not without some negative effects.According to both facilities, the combined revenue loss may be as much as $5 million. Each track lost 12 race days because of the shutdown, six of which have been added to the end of this season.Presumably the remaining days will be added to the beginning of next year’s season to meet the state-mandated 50 racing days necessary each year to run a card club.
