The 2013 World Series of Poker kicked off with a bang when players from Wisconsin won the first two events. Yours truly managed to top nearly 900 players to win $84,915 in the opening $500 Casino Employees event. A couple of days later, Trevor Pope of New Berlin captured Event 2 ($5K NLHE, eight-handed) for $553,906.
Other Wisconsinites who found success were Joe Kuether, a pro originally from Elm Grove, who finished 10th in Event 6 ($1,500, $82,205); Brookfield’s Amit Makhija, who took fourth in Event 7 ($1K NLHE, $94,353); and Eddie Blumenthal from Stoughton, who made two final tables (Event 15, $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. and Event 22, $1,500 pot-limit Omaha) in a five-day span and finished seventh in both, earning $28,778 and $33,057, respectively.
