New Mexico’s newest poker room is at Northern Edge Navajo Casino on the outskirts of Farmington. The casino is 86,000 square feet with six poker tables nestled in an open room. Table games manager Myron Yazzie came from Michigan, where he worked at Soaring Eagle Resort Casino.
With plenty of experience around poker (he was at Soaring Eagle when it hosted a Heartland Poker Tour event), he plans to bring a variety of tournaments, promotions and some World Series of Poker satellites to the room.
Northern Edge has a fast-growing bad-beat jackpot that’s averaging about $5,000 a week, according to the manager.
“I’m just trying to get a feel for the players and see what everyone wants. It seems like a lot of players just want to play tournaments,” Yazzie said about his early feelings for the state’s northern most poker room. With one more option for poker in the Land of Enchantment, players have something new to enjoy.
