On Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event, the field was whittled from 149 to the final 20. Among those left is World Series of Poker 2010 Champion, Jonathan Duhamel.

Among the Shooting Stars to return Wednesday were Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, Jason Mercier, Chau Giang, Vanessa Selbst, Allen Cunningham, JC Tran, Marvin Rettenmaier, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Fabrice Soulier, Linda Johnson, David Williams, Scott Seiver, Nam Le, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Matusow, and Duhamel. JC Tran and Duhamel were the only two to make it through to Day 3.

Duhamel served as executioner for Grospellier early in the day. According to the WPT Live Updates Team, the two got all their chips in preflop, with Duhamel holding {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Elky holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. The board ran out {J-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, giving Duhamel two pair and the $5,000 bounty on Grospellier’s head.

Later in the day, Duhamel also collected Jason Mercier’s bounty when Mercier got his remaining chips in preflop with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} against Duhamel’s {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The board ran out {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} giving both player’s two pair, but Mercier’s inferior two pair sent him to the rail and Duhamel collected his second bounty on the day. Mercier’s 27th place finish earned him $19,200.

Duhamel, who tweeted that he had been playing most of the day with a fever, finished the day with 751,000 in chips, putting him in sixth place.

Also returning on Day 3 are former WPT champs Taylor von Kriegenbergh (737,000) and JC Tran (145,000).

The current chip leader is Scott Baumstein who got most of his chips when his pocket kings snapped off Josh Arieh. With 568,000 chips, Arieh five-bet shoved with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} into Baumstein who called him with {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The board ran out {A-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Buamstein doubled through to 947,000. He’ll start Day 3 at the top of the pack.

Baumstein will be closely followed by Andrew Badecker (1,106,00) and Moon Kim (1,016,000), the only two other players to crack seven-figure chip counts.

Play will resume tomorrow at 1200 PST (2000 GMT) with the blinds at 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante and the average chip stack at 546,000.
