On Dec. 27, the Coushatta Casino Resort hosted its final big tournament of the year as 134 players took advantage of the holidays to fight it out on the felt in the $550 Winter Blowout. The prize pool was nearly $65K and after 11 hours of play the final 13 players negotiated a chop.
Leader Daniel Tupper of New Llano, La., earned the biggest cut, taking home $5,500. The other 12 players each received nearly $5K.
“Though we weren’t able to sell out this tournament, most likely because of the holiday season, I’m glad so many players were able to make the trip to Coushatta to support this tournament,” poker room manager Randall Litterall said. “We are really looking forward to bigger fields for our next tournament series, Coushatta’s Spring Classic in March.”

SMOKING BAN? The Louisiana State Police, the agency that oversees gambling in Louisiana, estimates more than $100 million will be lost in revenue and state fees in the first two years if the New Orleans City Council adopts a ban on smoking in public.
This issue will be discussed soon and businesses that expect to be hit hardest by a proposed ban include Harrah’s New Orleans, Louisiana’s only state-run land-based casino and home to one of the biggest poker rooms in the Pelican State. Regulators also expect a smoking ban to affect a horse racing track and video poker halls around the city. Opinions on smoking in public and how it may affect revenue are greatly divided in a city that historically has been relaxed on vice laws.
ISLE LAKE CHARLES: The poker room has increased its monthly freeroll to $10K. The first 60 players with 50 hours of live play each month will receive an entry into the no-limit hold’em free roll.
“We’re excited to offer our regular poker players this promotion as a way to reward them for their continued loyalty,” poker room manager Charles Mouhot said.
Players may check out the Bravo App or call the poker room at 337-430-2407 to get the freeroll dates each month.
