Matthew Anderson captured the main event and $100K at the record-setting Mid States Poker Tour at Meskwaki Casino on April 6 as 389 players turned out for $375K-plus prize pool. Anderson of Lincoln, Neb., beat runner-up and MSPT-sponsored pro Matt Kirby with quad kings on the final hand. Kirby settled for $54,481.

The MSPT will visit Iowa a few more times this year, returning to Meskwaki on July 19-27 and Nov. 1-9 for more $300K guaranteed events. The MSPT will visit Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood for a $150K guarantee. If you’re doing the math, that’s more than a million dollars guaranteed in Iowa.

BAD-BEAT JACKPOTS: At press time, the bad-beat jackpot at Diamond Jo Casino in Worth, Iowa, was $146K. Being one of the larger jackpots seen in Iowa, it was sure to grab attention.

Also, the bad-beat jackpot at the Isle in Bettendorf continues to climb, more than $75K as we went to press. If you’re in the area, drop by and maybe you can grab a piece of this pile of money as you enjoy one of the last riverboat casinos in Iowa with a poker room.

CASH GAMES: In Dubuque on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., there’s an active $2-$5 no-limit hold’em game with some unique characters. Call ahead and get on the list if you want to play. On Fridays, there’s a great $1-$2 PLO-PLO/8 game in Waterloo that starts around 6 p.m. Winnavegas, south of Sioux City, is advertising a $2-$10 stud/8 game on Wednesdays and Fridays.
