Mark Sandness of Wyzata, Minn., won $46,910 in the Great Minnesota Freeze Out after defeating Todd Breyfogle heads-up for the title. The freezing temperatures didn’t stop 186 entrants from generating a $180K prize pool for the $1,100 event at Canterbury Park in Shakopee on Jan. 24-26. This win increases Sandness’ lifetime earnings to more than $270K, according to the Hendon Mob database. The final table featured several of Minnesota’s finest players with Peixin Liu, Steve Lillehaug, Jeremy Dresch, Matt Alexander and Ryan Hartmann among the final 10.

AVALANCHE: Alexander won the $36,826 first-place prize in the Big Stack Avalanche at Running Aces Harness Park on Jan. 12. There were 298 entrants in the $500 event for a prize pool of $131,513.
