MGM National Harbor, a subsidiary of MGM Resorts International on Dec. 20 was awarded a license to operate the sixth casino in Maryland. The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission’s decision validates MGM’s vision as the clear choice to build and operate a world-class destination resort casino in Prince George’s County at National Harbor.

MGM’s winning proposal is centered on a $925 million investment designed to respect the rich history and atmosphere of Prince George’s County while meeting the needs of the sophisticated Maryland marketplace. The 300-suite 4.5-star quality hotel will feature a mix of resort amenities and entertainment experiences, including a casino with poker as part of 140 table games and 3,600 slots.

The facility is expected to open in July 2016.

HOLLYWOOD PERRYVILLE: This Maryland poker room’s tournament play, which began in October, has really blossomed lately. Word of mouth, Twitter and other social-media sharing has led to larger fields in the Saturday (9:30 a.m.) $35 event. Nearly 100 entrants registered on the Saturday just after Christmas (first-place money was $880, nine places paid).

Fields are expected to grow and a Sunday (1 p.m.) $35 event was added in January as this payout and buy-in is attractive in today’s economy. Re-entries until the end of the second break are allowed and there’s a 10K stack for these events. New promotions are slated for the upcoming months so check your Bravo app or call the poker room.

DOVER DOWNS: The Crown Royal Poker Room will have tournaments on Wednesday-Saturday with guaranteed prize pools. There will be a special $100 Presidents Day tournament Feb. 17 with a $3K guarantee.

PPA/LIONS CLUB: The Poker Players Alliance is supporting the Montclair Lions Club’s Winter Classic 2014 charity tournament Feb. 22 at the Dumfries-Triangle Rescue Squad 3R in Dumfries, Va. The $50 event gets you 5,500 chips.

MARYLAND LIVE: The poker room at Maryland Live Casino will host a series of monthly satellites for the PPC Aruba World Championship in October.
