Markus Wolter is Player of Series for Ante Up World Championship

Markus Wolter was the Player of the Series for the recently concluded Ante Up World Championship at Hard Rock Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Wolter, a German national now living in Bogota, Colombia, won two events and finishing runner-up in a third to earn 493.39 Ante Up Player of the Year points. Timothy Trahan of Youngsville, La., (385.54) and Mark Stephen Edwards of Longwood, Fla., (345.14) finished second and third in the Player of the Series race, each with three cashes.

Players with two cashes included Vic Sabo, “Tampa Bay” Ray Del Cueto, Fred Harvey, Joaquin Matos, Todd Skinner, Lawrence Lippert, Gerard Donaghy, Carlos Baez, Jose Antonio Tortosa and Francis Cruz.

Players from eight states – Florida, Minnesota, Louisiana, Delaware, Texas, California, Maryland and New Jersey – and eight countries – United States, Dominican Republic, Spain, Colombia, Canada, Italy, Portugal and France – cashed, making the Ante Up World Championship truly a global event.

Ante Up World Championship sponsors included Pro Poker Gear, which provided the Main Event championship bracelet, Poker Life Gear, which provided a custom hoodie for the Main Event champion, and Cypress Bayou Casino & Hotel, Sarasota Kennel Club, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, Thunder Valley Casino Resort and Running Aces Card Club, all of which ran satellites.

Total prize pool for all 14 events July 28-Aug. 3 was $96,520.

Tournament director was Sam Minutello and assistant tournament director was Matthew Bennett.
