Over 40 events into this year’s World Series of Poker, only a handful of nations have earned bracelets. While the United States and Canada have been cleaning up, other nations like Great Britain and France have gone winless. Today though, another country got on the board for bracelet wins, as Norbert Szecsi of Hungary picked up the European country’s fourth bracelet in WSOP history.
Scezsi bested the final table of the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event 42 final table in a matter of hours after a series of dramatic all-ins propelled him to a victory worth $345,037. The 22-year-old poker player from Budapest was at his first final table with a rail of eager supporters, including last year’s October Niner, Hungarian Andras Koroknai.
Sceszi bested Dennis Gnidash heads-up for the bracelet, making Hungary the seventh country this series to win a bracelet here in Las Vegas. Gnidash collected $214,760 for the runner-up finish.
This $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event drew 2,100 players and generated a prize pool of $1,890,000. The top 216 players made the money, including Dominik Nitsche (179th), Dan Heimiller (88th), Ari Engel (71st), Matt Matros (51st), and Jake Balsiger (40th).
The final table featured no previous gold bracelet winners and only one player, Chris DeMaci, with previous WSOP final table experience.
