At just 21 years old, Bryan Campanello has spent the better part of the last few months knocking on the door of World Series of Poker stardom. The young pro has six WSOP-related cashes including two final tables on the Circuit. Earlier this year he broke through for one of his first major victories, winning Event 1 of the WSOP Circuit at The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk, Colo. Campanello scored $21,223 for that performance and it gave him some momentum heading to the summer’s WSOP.
Campanello put that momentum to work Saturday, beating out David "Gunslinger" Bach for the $2,500 Seven Card Razz title, awarding him $178,052 and his first gold bracelet. Although Bach had the edge when it came to experience, laying claim to the $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. bracelet in 2009, Event 33 was all about Campanello.
This year’s lone Razz event on the schedule was a $2,500 buy-in affair that drew 301 players and generated a $684,775 prize pool. The top 32 finishers made the money in the event. Some of the notables who cashed were Huck Seed (28th), Archie Karas (26th), Billy Baxter (24th), Max Pescatori (22nd), and Frankie O’Dell, who bubbled the final table in ninth place.
The final table featured six American players as well as two Germans, Ismael Bojang (8th) and Sebastian Pauli (4th).
The final table also featured one previous bracelet winner, 2009 Poker Players Champion David Bach. There were also three other players with previous final table experience at the WSOP, Rick Fuller (7th), Ivan Schertzer (5th), and Jim Wheatley (3rd).
While they were both making their WSOP final table debuts, both Brent Keller (6th) and Campanello have found plenty of success on the WSOP Circuit. Keller is a three-time ring winner, while Campanello has one ring to his name as well as an at-large bid to last month’s WSOP National Championship in New Orleans. These two are the latest in a long list of Circuit success stories at this year’s WSOP, including bracelet winner Jonathan Taylor and final tablists Kyle Cartwright, Carter Myers, John Holley and Loni Harwood.
