On Wednesday, Press of Atlantic City reported that Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc. is applying for an online gaming license in New Jersey. Unlike the Rational Group, which has also applied for an online gaming license in New Jersey, Caesars already owns and operates properties in Atlantic City.
“It’s the first of I’m sure many hurdles to cross,” Seth Palansky, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Caesars, told Press of Atlantic City.
PokerNews reached out to Palansky, but he has yet to comment.
Alongside 888 Holdings, Caesars already owns an online poker license in Nevada, the United Kingdom, France and Italy, and while they will have to comply with the Garden State’s regulatory bodies, their road should be shorter than that of the Rational Group. Before they can deal a virtual hand of poker, the Rational Group well need approval from the Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Casino Control Commission, to deflect opposition from the American Gaming Commission and to finalize purchase of the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel.
“We’re offering a whole suite of games in the U.K.,” Palansky added. “We anticipate having everything available.”
In February, New Jersey became the third state to legalize online poker. It is unknown when real-money gaming will launch.
