On Wednesday, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York revealed that Garden City Group (“GCG”) has been hired to serve as Claims Administrator to oversee the repayment of Full Tilt Poker players based in the United States set forth in both the civil money laundering and forfeiture action United States v. PokerStars, et al.
In August of last year, PokerStars settled with the DOJ and as a part of that deal forfeited $547 million to the United States government to repay victims in the United States.
“The Garden City Group brings a track record of handling the administration of some of the country’s largest and most complicated settlements,” said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. “With their selection, we take a significant step forward in the process of compensating victims of the Full Tilt Poker scheme.”
According to a press release issued by the DOJ: “GCG is a class-action settlement and bankruptcy administration company that has provided comprehensive legal administration services for nearly three decades. GCG has worked on numerous complex administrations, including the Gulf Coast Claims Facility; the Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damage Settlement; the Visa Check/MasterMoney Antitrust Litigation; the WorldCom Securities Litigation; and the IPO Securities Litigation.”
While further information regarding the repayment process was not available, the press release did state that a dedicated website, www.FullTiltPokerClaims.com, had been established by the GCG to help facilitate victim compensation and that the “victim claims process will begin shortly.”
