Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn., had a nice turnout during its 12th Fall Poker Classic (Oct. 6-21) as Mike Schneider won the main event for $63,759 after a long heads-up battle with Alex Klatte, who took home $35,851 for second. Schneider is a poker instructor for CardRunners and is known as one of the top limit hold’em players in the country. His largest win was for $1 million when he won the Party Poker Million in 2006.

When asked how important this win was to him, Schneider said: “This is probably No. 2 behind the Party Poker Million win. This one matters a lot because it’s my hometown and the most prestigious event in the state of Minnesota. It’ll be great whenever I go to Canterbury to see my picture on the wall.”

Schneider had a great series, winning $9,894 for defeating a field of 68 in the $550 H.O.R.S.E despite never having played stud or razz before.

Scott Leininger won the Player of the Series award, earning 120 points for a second, fourth, sixth and 11th in the first 14 events. This earned him entry into the main event. Erick Wright took second with 102 points and Everett Carlton third (88).

ULTIMATE OVERLAY: Canterbury Park’s Ultimate Overlay Tournament took place Oct 1-4 as a warm-up to the Fall Classic.

Jeffrey Petronack took down the $22,000 first-place spot, outlasting 750 players. The $100K prize pool was paid to the top-100 finishers.
