Day 2 of the 2012 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open concluded on Tuesday with 174 players remaining. Orson Young finished on top of the field with a stack of 728,000. Joining Young near the top are David Diaz (541,900), Stephen Reynolds (510,600) and Cherish Andrews (495,300).
Plenty of notables were scattered across the field on Day 2, but not all were able to survive. David Paredes, David Levi, Jared Hamby and Harrison Gimbel were among those who fell throughout the day. Joining them on the rail were WPT Champions Club members Gavin Smith, Cornel Cimpan, Andy Frankenberger, Carlos Mortensen, Olivier Busquet, Will “The Thrill” Failla, Tommy Vedes, Jonathan Little, Matthew Salsberg and Lee Markholt.
Another player eliminated was last season’s WPT Player of the Year Joe Serock. According to the WPT Live Updates team, Serock was knocked out by Josh Templeton. Serock was all-in with

Frankenberger fell during Level 13 with the blinds at 800/1,600/200 when he ran

. Frankenger failed to fill up on the turn or river and was sent out the door.
It’s nearly bubble time at the WPT Borgata as the top 110 players all making the money. The aforementioned Andrews worked her way toward the top of the leaderboard and put herself in a good spot to not only cash, but make a very deep run. Heading into this event, Andrews has never recorded a cash on the WPT.
During Level 15 with the blinds at 1,200/2,400/300, it was reported that Andrews raised to 5,000 preflop from middle position before action folded to Jeff Gross on the button. Gross reraised to 21,800 and then Andrews four-bet to 55,000. Gross put in a five-bet to 84,800, but Andrews wanted to play for it all and moved in. Gross quickly made the call and showed the preflop nuts (
) to Andrews, who held 
. The board ran out 
to give Andrews the winning set of queens on the turn. She scooped in the pot worth over 400,000 in chips and moved into one of the top spots at over 500,000. From there, she finished on slightly under the half-million chip mark.
Other notables advancing to Day 3 are Kurt Jewell, Todd Terry, Dwyte Pilgrim, Tony Dunst, Steve Brecher, Vinny Pahuja and Matt Glantz. They’ll all be back on Wednesday with a fair number of chips. Barry Greenstein, Josh Brikis and Daniel Makowsky are all on the shorter side of things, but looking to run their stacks up.
The field will return on Wednesday for Day 3 at 1200 EDT (1700 BST). That’s when the cards will be in the air, and it’s going to be another great day of poker action on the felt.
