WinStar World Casino poker room manager Jay Wiles said things are off to a great start for this year’s $4 million guarantee River Poker Series. Satellites and super satellites are under way, leading up to the series beginning Aug. 16 running through Sept. 3.
The annual event is known for attracting players and pros from California to the East Coast, as well as the best local players from Texas and Oklahoma.
This year’s River promises to be even bigger with the addition of another $1 million to the guaranteed prize pool, and a new $5K no-juice event.
Non-stop cash games rule around the series as well, providing players with all the action they can handle in the packed 46-table poker room.
Lammers, a term used by tournament hosts Greg Raymer and Maria Ho, have added another interesting twist to the series. Nicknamed melons and raspberries because of the orange and pink colored chips, lammers are won by players in satellites, and can be used toward entries into any of the series events, giving players flexibility and choice of what venues they wish to play during the series. Check out the WinStar website for additional details, and player standings at winstarworldcasino.com.
The River series traditionally hosts about 1,500 players for the main event, and this year has the potential to break all records. It’s anticipated that an interesting collection of pros and top-level players will be drawn to the $5K no-juice event.
Raymer and Ho, official representatives for the WinStar River, are on the premises and visible throughout the series, mixing it up with players in cash games and tournaments.
If you have yet to experience this annual poker event you must check it out as it’s easily accessible from the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex.
