Brian Bowers is a sports aficionado, poker player and local business owner from McKean, Pa. He’s the owner of Sports Obsession and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Since the grand opening of Presque Isle’s poker room, he’s been a consistent regular there. I caught up with him before a session one Friday night.
“I started playing 10 years ago with home games for the first three or four years,” Bowers said. “Now I go to Vegas twice a year; I play at Mandalay Bay, Bally’s and mix it up each time I go.”
But he’s still an amateur. “I’m not a professional,” he said. “I own three stores and play at the casino twice a week. I also play in the World Tavern Poker bar league and a 30-person league.”
When talking with Bowers he sounded enthusiastic about the casino’s addition of tournaments. He mentioned the daily tournaments have been getting two or three tables on average.
“I like the room a lot, especially now that they have added a lot of tournaments. (It) looks even better, too, with different options like bounty tournaments, points plays, etc.”
BAD BEATS AT RIVERS: The Rivers Casino bad-beat jackpot hit twice in March, the first for $134,625 with quad threes beat by quad kings. The second hit weeks later for $61,567.
